Three Miles From Warmth (2019, adapted 2024)

Instrumentation: Flute, Viola, Piano, and Cello

Duration: approx. 5 min.

Program Notes: Conceptually, Three Miles From Warmth was loosely inspired by To Build a Fire by Jack London, a short story about an unnamed man who ventues into the icy Yukon forest and is overtaken by the fatal weather conditions. Though not moved initially, I was reminded of the story while writing Three Miles From Warmth, a piece which depicts a person walking through snow, so caught up in its beauty and nostalgia for happy winter memories that they don't notice they're freezing.
