Instrumentation: Saxophone Quartet

Program Notes: Ideologically, Cool Waters is about the process of healing, which can be slow, cathartic, and almost never completely resolved. The title came from misremembering Psalm 23, which has the lines" he leads me beside STILL waters, he restores my soul." By the time I realized my mistake, I could not contain the music to conform to the word "still." Now, I think of the piece as depicting more of a secular, all-encompassing restoration of the soul.
